Well, it has been a while since I last posted to my site. It has been a wild few years of chalk art appearances, conventions, illustration work, web comics and more. In the meantime, I have completely revamped this website, and decided it is finally time to get back to sharing my work and travels with everyone in some updated posts.
I was asked to appear at Anime Central 2018, my SIXTH appearance with that show in 7 years, and it has become one of my favorite conventions each year. This time around, the theme of the show was “Pirates”, and I was tasked with recreating the official show artwork by Julia Lichty. The work was COMPLEX, with several light sources, subtle perspective work that stretched up to 10 feet at points, a ridiculous amount of WOOD GRAIN (and different types and colors at that), and highly detailed characters with some great fashion work.
This time, the show also set up an overhead camera that aimed down while I worked, sending a live feet to two TVs set up in the space, and giving people a top-down perspective of the entire process. And as has become the norm for this show, we stood the final artwork up on the last day for everyone to take pictures.
In all, I love the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. I have made more appearances at this one location than any other, and I am already looking forward to going back. Thank you Anime Central.
Enjoy the progress photos below, and as always, let me know what you think of the art.
